New York City to Host Celebrations for 20th Anniversary of Falun Gong’s Public Introduction

Thousands of Falun Gong practitioners will host a parade, live performances and other festivities throughout New York City this weekend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Falun Gong’s public introduction. Many will also hold vigils outside the Chinese consulate on 42nd street, in protest of the on-going persecution of Falun Gong practitioners inside China.

Unlike in Tibet, Falun Gong “Self-immolations” a False Set-up

In recent months, as dozens of Tibetans have tragically set themselves on fire to protest Chinese repression, several media outlets have referred to an incident of supposed Falun Gong self-immolation on Tiananmen Square in 2001. The Falun Dafa Information Center reiterates that unlike in Tibet, where it appears to be genuine believers self-immolating, the individuals involved in the 2001 incident were NOT Falun Gong practitioners. Rather, various credible sources and analysis indicate that the event was staged by the Communist Party as a horrific propaganda ploy to turn public opinion against Falun Gong, thereby giving the authorities a free hand to intensify repression and torture of practitioners.

Falun Gong Practitioner Near Death in Tianjin Prison

On February 8, Amnesty International issued an urgent call for help on behalf of a Falun Gong practitioner being held at Tianjin prison who is feared to be near death. The practitioner, Zhou Xiangyang (???) , was the subject of a petition signed by over 1,500 of his fellow villagers in August 2011 urging the Chinese to release him.

Retired Government Worker Beaten to Death at Northeast China Prison

A retired worker from China’s Environmental Protection Agency was beaten to death at a prison in Northeast China on October 7, within less than a month of being imprisoned there for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. Police in Beijing suburb abduct over 16 residents for practicing Falun Gong

Since June 2011, police officers in Changping, a northwest suburb of Beijing, have abducted at least 16 local residents because they were discovered to practice Falun Gong. According to sources inside China, officers from the Changping District Police Department and the Dongxiaokou Police Station carried out four rounds of detention at the Tiantongyuan community, taking 16 people into custody. Among those abducted is 31-year-old Feng Qingdong, an employer with the media company Thompson Reuters (details below). In an apparent attempt to avoid an outcry from neighbors should they realize what was happening, the participating officers did not wear police uniforms or park their police cars nearby.
